Kundapur, Jan 10: Udupi district superintendent of police (SP), Laxman B Nimbargi, visited Gangolli in the taluk on Tuesday January 9 and took stock of the situation following incidents of setting two motor bikes on fire in succession there.
He inspected the venues where the bikes were set on fire and obtained information from local police officials. He also spoke to fish market resident, Gopal Sherugar, owner of the building where a bike was set on fire, and collected details.
Speaking to media persons later, the SP said that the suspects who set fire to the bikes would be arrested soon. “A special team has been formed to nab the culprits. We have put together some credible clues about the suspects. They will be arrested along with evidence. Suitable measures are being taken to prevent their escape. The team is stationed at Gangolli. Additional police personnel have been deployed for extra security. Suitable measures will be taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future,” he said.
Hundreds of Muslim community members, who were present, requested the SP to arrest the suspects at the earliest. The SP said that they will be arrested soon and asked the people not to take law into their hands.
Local deputy superintendent of police, Praveen Nayak, Byndoor police circle inspector Parameshwar Gunaji, DCIB inspector Sampath Kumar, Gangolli police station in charge sub inspector Subbanna were present.
Vigorous investigation
Udupi crime branch police have intensified investigation into the incidents after two bikes were set on fire at Gangolli. Police team led by inspector Sampath Kumar has been visiting various places in Gangolli and gathering details.
