Mangaluru, Jan 9: In a case similar to that in Mudigere where a girl ended her life after her picture was made viral on social media, the so-called moral brigade of Mangaluru has posted the picture of a girl studying in a college in the city in a bid to defame her.
The girl, a student in a college at Car Street here, has filed a complaint with police commissioner. The girl is also the district secretary of Student Federation of India (SFI).
In her complaint, she stated that the photo of hers clicked with her fellow members of SFI during one of their work related tours had been uploaded on Facebook. "I have no problem with the photo being uploaded on Facebook, but someone stole the photo to make it look like I was going around in the company of boys from another community.
"The persons in the picture are Ganesh Bolar, Suhas and Hamza Kinya, who are also from SFI. Some anti-social elements have been misusing the photo by sharing on WhatsApp and Facebook. Actvists of pro-Hindu outfits are sharing this picture to spead false messages that friendship between boys and girls is giving rise to love Jihad," she said in her complaint.
She also said that the activists are sending across social media messages that Hamza's movements should be watched and he should be stopped from mingling with girls of another community. "This is a mental torture to me. I have been defamed publicly. If the misuse of the photo becomes worse, my family and I will be subjected to even more misery and harassment. Some have already started harassing us. This incident has affected my studies and my work as well as social life as a member of a student organization. My parents too are worried because of this incident," she said.
"Recently a girl in Mudigere committed suicide as she could not bear the harassment on social media. If this does not stop, such tragedies may occur frequently," she added.
She urged the police to take stringent action in the case and arrest the culprits who caused her mental agony and defamed her.
