The Academic Journey in Three Phases

The Montessori (kindergarten) is the first of the three phases. This plays a major role in helping children discover themselves and their surroundings. The school has adopted the Montessori approach to education for its sound educational principles. It offers spacious environment for children to work and learn through exploration. The stimulating environment helps the children to actualise their latent talents and achieve their full potential. Value-based education, introduction of our culture through celebration of festivals, personal attention and close monitoring of the child’s progress are the special features of the school.

Second, the primary section, the Junior School programme at Silas comprises of Std I to Std V. These are the foundation years of education, where various skills, preferences and abilities are developed. The School follows an integrated curriculum of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations.

Silas recognizes that children at this level have their own unique abilities, interests, aspirations and expectations. Therefore, the curriculums in these classes are structured to encourage and motivate them to become self-confident, self-reliant and self-disciplined, and thus help them achieve full potential. The teachers use multiple learning styles to help students retain information and strengthen understanding.

The Middle School Programme comprises Std VI to Std VIII. In the Middle School, students build on the foundations set-up in the previous years. New challenges are met as communication, reasoning, problem solving, and value judgement becomes more complex.

Students in the Middle School pursue a common, comprehensive, academically-oriented curriculum, which prepares them for success in High School. It provides a framework for academic challenge and an exposure to a plethora of co-curricular activities to build skills and confidence to face the outside world and to take on its challenges.

Third, is the High School from grades 9 to 10. There is an emphasis on ICSE curriculum.

The Council encourages a system of continuous assessment by the school therefore, all the subjects have an internal assessment component of 20% marks in the form of project work, while the final written examination accounts for 80% marks. With respect to the optional subject chosen from Group III, it is divided into a theory paper and a practical component, with each being assessed to the extent of 50% marks through internal evaluation and 50% marks by way of external evaluation/ final written examination. India should be proud to admit that our Educational system was always embalmed with International flavor because of the fact that we had hundreds of years of British Educational system in our country. Most of our Leaders, including Mahatma Gandhi, Pudit Nehru and many others were all educated abroad and having grasped all the foreign influences in their Educational discipline they all returned to India and preached as well as practiced the important of foreign blend in our Educational system.

India has actively taken part in all the affairs of the United Nations from the time the U.N. was founded in the year of 1945, and India took advantage of inviting almost all the Nations of the world to come to India and share their knowledge and their vision for India.

Silas International School therefore will be an added attraction in India so that our young children will be acclimatized with the foreign influence in various Educational foundations. Today, India is privileged to join their hands with many reputable International Educational Institutions, and there is a mutual benefit for all nations to blend their International flavor of Education in numerous disciplines within the framework of Indian Standards and Indian systems.
