Udupi: CM to lay foundation stone for various projects on Jan 8

Udupi, Jan, 6: “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will visit Udupi on January 8 to inaugurate various constructed projects at a cost of Rs 509 crores and will lay foundation stone for other projects worth Rs 72 crores. In total, Rs 581 crores projects will be carried out in the district,” said district in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj at Udupi press club on Friday, January 5.

“CM will inaugurate the third phase of jetty construction at Malpe hharbour which is being built at cost of Rs 49 crores. Apart from this, he will lay foundation stone for KSRTC bus stand at Bannanje in 3.5 acres of land at cost of Rs 31 crores.”

“CM will further inaugurate Udupi- Varahi drinking water supply project to be constructed at a cost Rs 270 crores. Over eight dams will be constructed in the district as precautionary measures for saving water for summer season. The CMC of Udupi has received applications for 1000 new water connections. As promised during elections, I have tried to fulfil 24x7 electricity supply in Udupi district. I am also working towards providing 365-day water supply in district,” he added.

The public meeting with CM will be held in Gandhi Maidan, Brahmavar. Earlier the ground was in the hands of defence department and now the land has been handed over to sports department. The government has decided to build a cricket stadium at the place worth Rs 75 lac. The fund has been released by the government.

The indoor gymnasium at Ajjarkad will be upgraded to national level where all youngsters can work out to maintain their fitness. This project will cost Rs 2 crores.

The state government has released special grants of Rs 10 crores for Paryaya preparation and a proposal has sent to release earlier pending amount of Rs 1.5 crores.

A proposal for revival of Brahmavar sugar factory has been sent to directorate of sugar department for approval. 

Commenting on Deepak murder case, minister said, “It is very sad. Everyone's life is valuable. Such situation of communal unrest is painful to an intellectual coastal district like Dakshina Kannada. The government should take precautionary measures to control communal violence. Whether it is ruling party or opposition, communal peace should be promoted. Religious communities and other organisations should take serious steps to maintain cordial relationship among them.”

Describing the CM’s schedule, minister Pramod Madhwaraj said, “On Monday, January 8, chief minister Siddaramaiah will arrive to Shirur helipad in Byndoor in the morning and will take part in public meeting. From there he will proceed to Udupi and take part in a programme at Brahmavar. He will then travel by road and attend a programme at Kaup. He will address the party workers. At night he will stay in Udupi.”

CM will distribute certificate for the beneficiaries under various government schemes.

Narasimha Murthy, president, urban development authority and Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, president of CMC were present.
