Bantwal, Jan 5: A girl student, who tried to end her life by hanging, having been consternated at having been let down in a love affair, died on Thursday January 4 without responding to treatment.
Fatimat Mynaz (15), resident of Patrathota in Mangalapadavu, Veerakmba village in the taluk, who was a ninth standard student, it is said, had a love affair with Rashid (22) from Mangalapadavu near Vittal. This relationship had come to the notice of the families.
Recently, arrangements were being made to hold the engagement ceremony of Rashid with some other girl. Rashid conveyed this information to Fatima through a third person, it is learnt. Distressed at this unexpected development, she had tried to end life by hanging herself when alone at home. She had been admitted into a private hospital at Deralakatte in serious condition. But efforts to save her failed, and she succumbed on Thursday.
The girls parents had filed a complaint at Vittal police station on December 29 against Rashid and a case had been registered there against him.
