Kundapur, Jan 1: ATV bikes for moving around beach, boat travel, fish delicacies, vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, were the highlights of 'Oormani Habba' beach festival which attracted thousands of people.
As this was the first beach festival to be organized in this region, people came here in droves. Children and elders alike exulted in the amusement park. Children were found engaged in flying of kites and the elders went to help them whenever they felt like the kites were going out of control.
The event was also used to bring back memories of yesteryear by presenting equipment once used by the previous generation like Hadimancha, Gorbu, hitting of sheaves of paddy against the 'Hadimancha' to extract paddy corns, etc. People were happy clicking themselves photographed with these things of the past.
The 'Bhootha Kola' Vesha which moved around the beach festival too earned a lot of appreciation. The 'Bhoota' also danced to the tunes of 'Dennana' song rendered by an artiste on stage.
On the day of its inaugural, MLA, Halady Srinivas Poojary, had fun having a jolly ride in ATV bike, and moving around in an old Lamby auto rickshaw at 'Oormani Habba'.
Taking cue from the success of the event here, the organizers propose to hold it again next year. Some projects are also envisaged for developing Kinara beach here to attract more tourists. Uday Kumar Shetty, who organized the event, said that the current 'Oormani Habba' had attracted lot of crowds and that he is thinking in terms of bringing the festival back with new ideas next year.
