Mangaluru: Murder attempt leaves auto rickshaw driver injured

Mangaluru, Dec 28: Two miscreants tried to kill Muhammed Shakir (35), resident of Ulal Alekala on national highway 66 at Jappinamogaru in the outskirts of the city late night on Tuesday December 26. Shakir, who suffered injuries to his lips and right eye, got admitted into a hospital for treatment.

Shakir used to work as auto rickshaw driver in the city and return home by around 10 pm everyday. He was late in returning home on Tuesday as his auto rickshaw had been hired to go to B C Road on that night. A car overtook the auto rickshaw he was driving near Jappinamogaru. Two people seated in the car suddenly attacked Shakir with swords. Shakir immediately turned his three-wheeler towards Yekkur.  Although the miscreants followed Shakir for some distance, they escaped after seeing that people were moving around the place.

Shakir returned to Thokkottu after making sure that the aggressors had gone away. He got admitted into a hospital at Thokkottu. After his family members came to know about the incident, they shifted him to a private hospital at Deralakatte. Policemen said that Shakir is out of danger.

A murder attempt case was registered in Kankanady town police station in this connection.
