Mangaluru, Dec 28: Thieves entered a house at Kalpane in Kulshekar in the city in the absence of family members on the night of Tuesday December 26, and took away cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 7.8 lac.

The burgled house belongs to Philomena D'Silva. She had left home at 3.30 pm on Tuesday to attend a marriage function organized in the house of a relative. She came back at midnight and found that the front door was broken open. Upon further examination, she realized that the thieves had broken open the almirah inside the house and taken away ornaments worth Rs 7.5 lac and cash amounting to Rs 30,000.

On the basis of complaint filed by Philomena, Kankanady town station police have registered a case.

It also has transpired that the thieves entered the house of Joy Pereira in the area by breaking the front door but did not get any valuables there. The owners of this house live in north India. Caretaker of the house, Lucy Lobo, who visited the house on Wednesday morning noticed that the door had been broken open. She filed complaint with the police.

Similarly, thieves also gained entry into another house which belongs to G M Fernandes. There too they failed to lay their hands on anything worthwhile. The family in this case stays in Mumbai, and S Noronha, who looks after this house, found the next morning that the front door and cupboards inside the house were broken open.

Kankanady police have registered these cases and begun investigation. Finger print experts and sniffer dogs were summoned to help in the investigation.

It's a failure of law enforcement agency. In a recent theft case although the suspected criminals were identified, they were left free as soon as the victim leaves the police station after promising action and justice. The complaint receipt and recording of finger printing was also refused. There was no response also from the higher authority who were informed about this!
Inspector says that they are not protector of property and valuables. He instructs that a watchman should be appointed instead of taking action against these criminals!
This type of behavior definitely increases more criminal acts in future.
