Udupi, Dec 27: To end the interference of middlemen in sale of agricultural products, School of Management, Manipal has initiated a new project - Mobile Vegetable Market.

Addressing media on Wednesday, December 27, representatives from the new initiative said, “Vegetable growers societies have been established in Benegal, Kukkehalli and Mattu of Udupi districts, and farmers can sell their produce in this mobile vegetable van.”

“The project is supported by NABARD bank. At present, farmers sell their produce to middle men. As a result, they do not get good prices. The same vegetable is sold for double the price in shops. To end all these evils and for the benefit of farmers, this new initiative is being taken.

“The inauguration of vehicle will be held on December 29 at Tiger Circle, Manipal. District in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj will inaugurate the Mobile Vegetable market. In the beginning, the vehicle will cover Manipal and Udupi areas only. Depending on customers’ demand, more vehicles will be included for service. The vehicle will operate from 8 am to 7:30 pm.

“By using social media platforms, customers will be given information about the next days’ available vegetable list and their prices,” they said.
