Puttur, Dec 27: Hindu Jagran Vedike (HJV), which has intensified its fight against what it terms as atrocities being committed against leaders and activists of Hindu organizations by personnel of the rural police at Sampya here, began serial protest from Tuesday December 26 onward. The Vedike has named station house officer, Khader and staff, Chandra, Karunakar and Sandesh, as guilty. It has demanded their suspension from service.
HJV said it has decided to continue to hold protests till the suspension orders of the policemen named above are issued. On Tuesday, activists of the Vedike held protest in front of mini Vidhana Soudha here.
The protest was initiated by offering flowers to Amar Jawan Jyoti memorial after which a memorandum was handed over to assistant commissioner and assistant superintendent of police.
Addressing the protesters, leader of Hindu organizations, Arun Kumar Puttila, accused police personnel of Sampya station of joining hands with anti-national organization and inflicting injustice on citizens. "When Hindu activists approached them for justice, they attacked them and then tried to say that they were injured during caning. People like sub-inspector, Khader and the staff who extend support to him in unlawful acts should be suspended immediately so that peace returns in society here."
Chimnay Rai, activist, said, "Protests will be held on December 27 by Kadaba taluk committee of HJV, Sullia tlauk committee on December 28, Bantwal committee on December 29, Vittal committee on December 30, and district committee on January 1. On January 2, various Hindu organizations will hold protest and hand over a memorandum. A huge procession and meeting will be held on January 2."
Leaders of Hindu organizations, Radhakrishna Adyantaya, Ullas T, district general secretary of HJV, Jayant Bellare, Sandeep Pumwell, president of Public Welfare Committee, Rakesh Naik and others were present. Over 50 activists took part in the protest.
Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police,Sudheer Kumar Reddy, held talks with HJV members who launched a protest against police personnel on Tuesday, at the town police station here. Hindu activists said that only the rural police station is owning strong anti-Hindu stance. The SP assured to seriously consider all the points mentioned in the complaint, hold investigation against the station house officer and other staff of rural station and take corrective steps within a month.
In-charge assistant superintendent of police, Arun Kumar and town station police inspector, K Mahesh Prasad, were present.
