Kasargod, Dec 26: In view of increasing number of illegal activities, the excise squad here has intensified its vigilance and operations. On Tuesday December 26, the excise team succeeded in finding black money of Rs 1,04,95,500 hidden under the seat of a car that was being transported from Karnataka into Kerala. A person was arrested in this case. Ten kilograms of ganja was confiscated, and another person was nabbed in one more case.
Cash was found and seized at the Iritty check post. The excise department squad was involved with checking of vehicles to stop illegal trafficking of drugs and liquor at Iritty check post. The team, upon stopping a car that was coming from Karnataka and subjecting the vehicle to thorough check, found cash hidden under the seat and confiscated it.
The entire consignment of cash was made out of Rs 2,000 and 500 notes. A person, identified as Kallingal Muhmood (28) from Yogi Matha, Aniyattara, Pringattur, who was inside the car, was arrested and handed over to Iritty police.
In another operation conducted at Kaleyuttara check post near Iritty, the excise team found ten kg ganja in the possession of a bus passenger and arrested Mubasheer (23) from Parappangady. Mubasheer was travelling in a luxury bus coming from Karnataka when the bus was checked by the excise team. The team grew suspicious about the bag Mshasheer was holding and checked it. Mubasheer told the team that he happens to be a student of a Bengaluru-based engineering college and that he was given this bag by a person who offered to pay Rs 4,000 if the bag is delivered to a person at Malappuram.
Further investigations are in progress in both cases.
