Puttur, Dec 23: The in-charge senior health inspector in the town was trapped by Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Friday December 22. Allegedly, he had demanded for payment of bribe amounting to Rs 3,000 for issuing licence for a person to operate roadside trade through pushcart.
Santosh Acharya Perne had applied for licence to operate pushcart at Darbe in the town. A demand for bribe was made but Santosh refused to oblige, it is said. As a result, the official kept the file put up for issuing licence to Acharya pending.
Santosh finally agreed to pay bribe on Friday December 22. He alerted the ACB officials about the transaction in advance by visiting Mangaluru on Friday morning. ACB officials laid out a trap and Acharya did as he was advised by ACB officials. In-charge senior health inspector of health department, Sumanth, was caught red-handed when accepting bribe in this operation.
The operation was executed by a team comprising deputy superintendent of police, Sudheer M Hegde, inspector, Yogeesh Kumar and others under the guidance of ACB superintendent of police, Shruti.
