Puttur, Dec 21: Receiving bribe is an act of dishonesty and corruption. Will it become honesty if the person returns the money after being caught? Puttur government hospital witnessed such an amusing incident on Wednesday, December 20.
Yoganand, assistant administration officer of Puttur government hospital is the person who was the center point of this whole episode. A company had sent a young man to Puttur government hospital to get a certain document attested by a gazetted officer in order to get some correction made on his pan card. Yoganand received a bribe of Rs 250 from the person and signed the attestation letter.
The young man brought this to the notice of some journalists who were nearby the hospital. The officer came to know that his act is known to the media and immediately returned the money and said that he never accepts any money as bribe from anyone! When the journalists questioned the officer about accepting the bribe a little earlier, he expressed his innocence and told that he has returned the money to the concerned person.
It is also learnt that the private agency which sent this person for the attestation had told him that he would have to pay an amount of Rs 150 as a bribe to the officer. It has come to light that certain private organizations are also duping the general public by asking them to go to a certain gazetted officer only in order for attestation of documents. The public does not verify their modus operandi and just give the bribe and get their work done.
Only because of an alert and gutsy citizen, this illegal act came to light.
