Udupi: Mysuru silk expo inaugurated at Hotel Diana

Udupi, Dec 21: A four-day exhibition cum sale of Mysuru silk sarees, organised by Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC), began at Hotel Diana here on Wednesday, December 20.

The expo was inaugurated by additional deputy commissioner Anuradha G by lighting the lamp.

Addressing the gathering, Anuradha G said, “There is no age restriction for wearing a Mysuru silk saree. It has a rich heritage in India. Silk sarees are made by using mulberry plant. So, the economic status of farmers will increase through silk worm farming. Mysuru silk sarees have gained recognition all over the world and have become a brand. Silk sarees enrich tradition and suit all kind of occasions like parties, religious rituals and weddings. Mysuru silk has Geographical Indication Registration (GIR) tag hence no one can copy them. Let the silk industry grow in a profitable way.”

Bhanuprakash, marketing manager said, “Sarees ranging from Rs 12,500 to Rs 1.20 lac are on sale here at the expo. There are varieties of silk sarees and men’s wear too is in collection. KSIC has GIR tag and received ISO 9001-2005, EMS 14001-2015 and OHSAS 18001-2007’ certificate. Some sarees are designed using 0.65% of gold and 65% silver. The designs are much traditional and modern. We have good collection like Crepe-de-chine, Georgette, Zari printed crepe silk sarees and semi crepe sarees and some of them are water resistant.”

The exhibition will be open from 10.00 am and 8.00 pm.

Expo in-charge Raghuaram was present.
