Mangaluru, Dec 18: Four persons were attacked by a group with machetes near Rao and Rao circle in State Bank area here on the night of Monday December 18.
Three of the four injured have been identified as Shafiq (45), a resident of Bunder, Anees (22) and Hafeez (22). The fourth person is said to be a pan shop vendor.
It is learnt that a group that came in a car confronted Shafiq near Harsha bar and began assaulting him. At the same time, Anees, an acquaintance of Shafiq who was going towards Pandeshwar saw the fight and intervened. When Anees tried to stop the attackers, they went back to their car, got out weapons and returned to attack Shafiq and Anees.
Hafeez, a student who was accompanying Anees was also injured in the attack, and so also the pan vendor was was next to the bar.
While Shafiq's condition is said to be serious, the other three sustained minor injuries.
Three of them have been admitted to a private hospital.
The identities of the attackers and the motive are yet to be ascertained.
Pandeshwar police visited the spot and registered a case.
