Kundapur, Dec 18: “India is becoming a leading country in the world. Karnataka along with our country should become great. Instead of comparing our state with other states in the country, it should be compared with other countries in the world. We have to prepare an environment so as to live in peace and harmony. We should nurture young people who dream big,” said Yuva brigade leader Chakravarti Soolibele.
He was delivering the key note address at Kanasina Karnataka conference held in Kunti Amma's temple, Tallur on Sunday, December 17 under the aegis of Yuva Brigade Kundapur.
“The direction in which Karnataka will proceed is important. The chief minister who ruled the state for four and a half years is speaking about vision 2025 and development. Political parties prepare election manifesto and go from village to village, school to school and town to town to know the aspirations of people. It is welcome that parties are coming forward to know the desires of the people and recognize their aspirations.
“The state government is borrowing money to increase resources. The present chief minister who has borrowed nearly Rs 39,000 crore during the last 20 months is thus declared as number one when compared with previous chief ministers. Nearly 12,000 crore are spent to repay the principal and interest. Sale of liquor is increasing. While the government is able to increase the income, it was not able to develop roads, complete Varahi project, lay railway tracks, provide land, construct bus stands, create jobs, increase investments, increase hospitals and meet the targets of employing teachers in schools.
“The state government is struggling to provide basic necessities. Nobody is coming forward to think about development in the circumstances. Income to the government will increase if Varahi project is completed. If waterfalls such as the one in Maravanthe are developed, it can attract tourists. Panchagangavali riverside needs to be developed for tourism. If units manufacturing electronic items are started in Mangaluru and Udupi, it will help in the development of the state and the country.
“Kanasina Karnataka is a social movement and an effort to beautify the state. People can see the dream of development getting realized by the programme. Those who saw the dream should stand to make it a reality. Such a movement has not happened in the country so far. We should dream about our land and work hard by ourselves for it, thereby taking the state towards the path of development,” he said.
Manipal MIT professor Prof S V Udayakumar Shetty and Kunti Ammanavara Shashidhar Talloorangadi welcomed and compered the programme.
