Mangaluru. Dec 18: As part of Oil and Gas Conservation month programme - Saksham, on December 17, a cyclothon, cycle rally was organized by Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) here. The cycle rally was flagged off in the morning by Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, DK district and JR Lobo, MLA Mangaluru south.
The cycle rally was part of a nationwide campaign taken up by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), a body under ministry of petroleum and natural gas, Govt of India. The campaign for creating awareness about conservation of fuels, reducing wastage of petroleum products and promoting cycling is being taken up by PCRA in association with public sector oil companies. The campaign contains two components – educational campaign through various media and on-ground events like cycle rally. The cycle rally has been planned to be carried out in 77 cities across the country over a period of four months and at Mangaluru. MRPL has been nominated.
The cycle rally in Mangaluru was organized by MRPL in association with Mangalore Bicycle Club with the cooperation of Bharat Scouts and Guides. Students, youngsters and cycling enthusiasts participated in large numbers in the cycle rally which traversed across the heart of the city.
