Beltangady, Dec 18: In an incident which happened at Kakkinje within the limits of Dharmasthala police station on Saturday December 17, three youngsters reportedly harassed a girl student belonging to another religion and attempted to outrage her modesty. The three men are now booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.
The accused offenders have been identified as Tameem, Tanveer and Irfan from Gandhinagar, Kakkinje. The girl had got down from a bus along with a friend of hers and was walking towards her school when the three reportedly followed and accosted her besides harassing her. Again when she was going home after school in the afternoon, they came in a motor bike, blocked her way and harassed her, it is said.
The girl escaped from their hands and reached the downtown there. The boys followed her there too and pulled at her hands, the girl said in a complaint delivered to Dharmasthala police station. The police registered the case under POCSO. The accused have escaped and the police are making an effort to locate their whereabouts.
It is said that as soon as members of certain Hindu organizations came to know of the incident, they went to the trio and questioned them. During this period, a verbal friction between the two groups ensued, which culminated in brawl. As the situation was threatening to go out of control, police personnel reached the spot and dispersed the crowd that had accumulated there. They also took steps to make sure that this unsavoury incident does not spread elsewhere.
