Bantwal, Dec 14: In a meeting that took place on Wednesday December 13, formalities for distribution of compensation for the affected farmers, whose land will get submerged in water due to the new dam that is built at Thumbay in order to provide drinking water to Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), was completed.
Affected people participated in the meeting that was conducted in the presence of MCC officials and tahsildar. Sources have informd that Rs seven crore is released by the state government in this connection.
Due to this new project, the water can be stored to a height of five meter. 20.53 acre of patta land belonging to 27 farmers will get submerged because of raising the height of the dam. Important issues like the amount of compensation and giving required documents and files were discussed in the presence of tahsildar Purandar Hegde.
In the present second phase, the water level in the dam is being raised to a height of 5 meters and the compensation will be given to only those farmers, whose land will be submerged in this phase. In the next phase, the height of the dam will be raised to a height of 6 meters.
