Moodbidri, Dec 13: The mysterious disappearance of would-be bride, Priyanka Bhandary, who was to be married on December 11, just two days ahead of her marriage, had given rise to lot of curiosity and unsubstantiated information.
The police, who have registered the missing case, visited Priyanka's home at Dharegudde here on Tuesday, questioned her family members and gathered all related information.
Priyanka, who was to marry a youth from Shirur currently employed abroad, had disappeared after the Mehndi programme on the night of December 9. The people have linked together the love relationship she had with a youth belonging to another faith from Farangipet six years back, credits she regularly received in her bank account, juice laced with intoxicants she is said to have served her family members before going to bed, and the fact that she went away with ten sovereigns of gold ornaments the family had procured with difficulty for the marriage, have given rise to suspicions.
Some locals and also organizations have termed this as an incident of Love Jihad. On Monday, a complaint was filed with the police commissioner on behalf of Bhandari Samaja Seva Sangha in this respect. Some Hindu organizations are set to present petitions to police officers seeking detailed investigations in this case, while there are reports that some organizations have planned protest.
On Tuesday evening, a rumour that the youth from another religion with whom the girl is suspected to have eloped, had abandoned her and gone away, was circulated. But the police have rubbished this rumour. Police sources said that the case is being investigated and that such an incident has not happened so far.
At the same time, photograph of the youth with whom the girl's marriage was fixed, was widely circulated in social websites.
