Bantwal, Dec 12: Veteran actor Prakash Rai along with CPI(M) leaders inaugurated 'Walk for harmony' rally by releasing pigeon at Farangipet near here on Tuesday December 12.
'Walk for harmony' rally spearheaded by Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, B Ramanath Rai, is being taken out from Farangipet and culminate at Mani. The walk is meant to restore harmonious coexistence and peace in the district. Walk for rally will be followed by public meet at Mani and the dais of the programme has been named after Harish Poojary.
"Dakshina Kannada is always known for peace and harmonious coexistence but some communal forces have meddled with peace and harmony through acts of veolence which have harmed the reputation of the district. Organizations which are involved with murders have been excluded from this walk for harmony. This programme has not been organized under the banner of any political party and it is open to all peace-loving citizens," Rai said on the occasion.
Security has been beefed up at sensitive areas such as Farangipet, Kaikamba, BC Road and Kalladka.
Ramanath Rai added," Since the last couple of months, Dakshina Kannada has been witnessing incidents of communal violence and it is necessary that this district should maintain peace and harmony. We should walk together peacefully not only today but for all our life. Without interrupting traffic or disturbing others we should walk for peace. All the people should join hands in restoring peace in the district," he pleaded.
Chief Whip of the state legislative council, Ivan D Souza, MLAs, J R Lobo and Mohiuddin Bava, DYFI district president, Muneer Katipalla, Congress spokesperson, Mohammed Hanif, city corporator, Appi, district Congress president, Harish Kumar, MLA, Shakuntala Shetty, zilla panchayat member, Mamatha Gatti, and several other leaders were present.
Stones pelted at two buses
Ahead of walk for peace rally, stones were pelted at a Rajahamsa and another KSRTC bus early this morning at Farangipet. However, no one was hurt.
