Mangaluru, Dec 6: The 26th annual conference of the Indian virological society titled 'VIROCON - 2017' will be held under the auspices of NITTE University on Thursday December 7 at K S Hegde Medical Academy auditorium. This was informed by Prof Iddya Karunasagar, chairman, organizing committee at a press meet on Wednesday December 6.
Briefing the gathering Prof Iddya Karunasagar said, "The chancellor of NITTE University, N Vinay Hegde will be the chief guest, chairman of the international commission of viral taxonomy, Dr Andrew Davison and vice-chancellor of NITTE university, Satheesh Kumar Bhandary will be the guests of honour. President of Indian virological society, Prof Anupam Varma will preside over the function.
"The theme of the conference is 'Viruses to viromes in health and disease'. This conference has attracted eminent speakers from several premier research institutions in India, UK, USA, Australia and Caribbean. The conference consists of keynote lectures, lead lectures and contributed papers in all areas of virology. Over 250 delegates are expected to attend this conference. Awards will also be presented to senior distinguished virologists as well as young scientists and students in recognition of their scientific work."
Indian virological society was established in 1984 with the aim of bringing together scientists working in plant, animal and human viruses under one umbrella, in order to have better understanding and management of viral problems in agriculture, aquaculture, veterinary and human medicine. The society has been organizing national and international scientific conferences and publishing a refereed scientific journal 'Virus disease'.
President of Indian virological society, Prof Anupam Varma, general secretary, Dr G P Rao and others were present.
