Mangaluru, Dec 6: An under-trial prisoner, suffering from kidney-related complications since long, failed to respond to medication and breathed his last at the government Wenlock Hospital here on Tuesday December 5.
The prisoner who died has been identified as Bokkapatna Ansar (60). Ansar was accused in a cocaine trafficking case dating back 25 years and had succeeded in escaping arrest. About eight months back, the police had got the better of him and taken him into custody.
He had been suffering from kidney failure since some time and was on medication prescribed by the hospital. As his health condition deteriorated on November 2, he had been admitted into Wenlock Hospital. He succumbed to health complications on Tuesday morning.
A case relating to his death was registered at Pandeshwar police station. After postmortem, the body was handed over to his family members.
