Puttur, Dec 5: The pillion rider of a two-wheeler was killed after a truck that was moving towards Bengaluru hit the vehicle on which he was seated at the bypass road bend at Uppinangady on Monday December 4. The rider of the two-wheeler suffered grave injuries.
The deceased was Veerappa (65) from Ron in Gadag district. The injured rider happens to be John from Suratkal near Mangaluru. John has suffered fracture of the leg and admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru.
Veerappa and John reportedly were working for a hotel owned by Anand Ramakunja at Nekkilady. Veerappa had planned visit to his native place and his friend, John, had offered to drop him at the bus stand in his vehicle. But by the time they reached the bus stand, his bus had left and therefore, both were returning to Nekkilady when the accident happened.
After the accident, assistant sub-inspectors of Uppinangady, Yogeendra and Sridhar Rai, visited the spot and arranged to shift the mortal remains of the deceased and the injured man to hospital. As the accident had created traffic problem, the vehicles were also removed from the road.
Traffic police sub-inspector from the town, Jagadeesh Reddy and staff visited the spot and registered a case.
