Kundapur, Dec 1: The town municipal council meeting held here on Thursday, November 30, expressed opposition for starting a waste disposal unit at Huncharabettu ward residential area and finalization of wet mix tender process. The members also urged for measures to regulate traffic.
“There was opposition since 2012 against waste disposal unit near Huncharabettu. The officials of the council have inspected the place intending to request for Rs five crore from the minister for shifting the place. Why then is the matter not included in the agenda? No meeting was held while starting the drainage project. No information about it was provided to people,” said member Gunarathna.
Raviraj Kharvi said that he had objected in the previous meeting about tender worth Rs 36 lac for wetmix for potholes. “But the decision is termed as unanimous. How did that happen?” he asked.
The chief official explained that they have got the work stopped in Kharvikeri. The payment will be made only after verifying the quality of wetmix and depth. The road will have to be dug to verify,” he said.
Kundapur traffic police inspector Jayanna said that they have conducted a survey together with council officials and identified places suitable for parking of vehicles. “The problem can be solved if people and vehicle owners join hands,” he said.
Chief official said that Rs 10 lac is set aside for the purpose, but those who agreed for tender did not take part in the process. “If the traffic police give a draft copy, we will present it before the assistant commissioner and traffic officials,” he said.
Chandrashekar Kharvi said that due to absence of sign boards, heavy vehicles from national highway directly enter the market and cause problems. Raviraj Kharvi, Vijaya Poojary, Udaya Mendon and Kalavathi also spoke about traffic problems.
Member Jyothi spoke about lack of electricity in Kodi. Members said that interlocks should not be laid in the development of crematorium. “There should be a border wall. Burial of bodies should also be allowed,” they said.
Council president Vasanthi Sarang presided. Vice-president Rajesh Kaveri, standing committee president Cicily Kotian, and chief official Gopalakrishna Shetty were present.
