Udupi, Dec 1: State level Yuva Janotsava 2017-18 began with a colorful ceremony at Ajjarkad on Thursday, November 30.
District in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurated by the three-day event by lighting the lamp. The event is being organized by Youth Empowerment and Sports Department in association with Udupi zilla panchayat and district administration.
Addressing the gathering Pramod said, “Yuva Janotsava is being organized for the first time in Udupi. Yuva Jana Mela will be held in Puttur on the request of the respective MLA. Youths used to enjoy by participating in such events very enthusiastically in the earlier days. It was like a fest for villagers. It is very unfortunate that, youths are showing very less interest to participate in cultural activities. They have diverted their minds towards social media.
“Yuva Janotsava is a platform to showcase young talents. We have to boost our ancient trends. Such events will help to mingle, unite and understand each other. It would be good for social unity and friendliness. It is a stage for all castes and religion.
“It is the responsibility of the government to shape the future generations. Rs 15 crore has been sanctioned to provide skill training for youths.
“Education is not important as most companies ask for experience in interviews. Due to this, the government has planned to impart skill training. The government will ensure jobs in certain fields.
“Let youth from Karnataka shine as the state’s ambassadors at the national level,” he said.
The programme began with invocation by Mahendra Gore and team from Shivamogga.
Visibly-challenged Krithika from Vijayapura played flute to Nithyotsava song. She is the student of popular Hariprasad Shaurashya.

Roshan Shetty, assistant director, Youth Empowerment Department welcomed the gathering.
Prakash Kramadhari delivered the vote of thanks. Prashant Shetty Havanje compered the programme.
Special school for deaf and mute Samarthana’s team from Bengaluru and Sai Deepa team performed cultural dance.
The events are being held at two places namely town hall Ajjarkad and at Indoor Stadium.
