Bantwal, Nov 30: In an accident which happened at the road bend near KSRTC bus stand at Vittal on Kalladka - Kanhangad inter-state highway on Wednesday November 29, a motor bike rider lost his life. The accident happened when the lorry, which was driven recklessly and at high speed, hit the motor bike from behind at the sharp road bend near the bus stand.
The deceased was Venkappa Moolya D (53), a former serviceman and resident of Poyyagadde in Kanyana village. He used to work as security staff for a software company at Mudipu. He was moving towards Vittal when this tragic accident happened.
It is learnt that Moolya had reduced the speed of his motor bike as a oncoming KSRTC bus was approaching on this road bend. A lorry loaded with laterite stones that was following him hit him from behind, as a result of which his motor bike got tossed to the left side of the road. The rider directly came under the front wheel of the lorry. The lorry driver, in an effort to suddenly reduce his speed, went to the extreme left and in the process, dragged away both the bike and its rider with the vehicle. As the wheels also moved over both his legs, both the legs of Moolya had got crushed.
Although Moolya was rushed to a hospital at Mangaluru, he breathed his last on the way. A case about the accident was registered at Vittal police station.
