Puttur, Nov 29: The state high court (HC) has reversed the order of the government dismissing president of the gram panchayat in Aittor in Puttur taluk, K Sathish, from his post.
Sathish had filed a petition questioning the action taken by under secretary in the state panchayat raj department in removing him from the post of the president. The single judge bench of the high court presided over by Justice Vineet Kothari set aside the official's order.
The court expressed the opinion that removing a gram panchayat member or president is an extreme measure that can be taken when fraud, misuse of funds or corruption are proved against them. It noted that in the pertinent case, only minor commissions and omissions have happened, which can be set right by the coming together of the gram panchayat, government authorities, panchayat development officer etc.
