Udupi, Nov 26: "Dharma Sansad is a supplementary programme to the upcoming elections and would help the BJP. But the convention is non-political," stressed Udupi Chikmagalur MP Shobha Karandlaje.
Speaking to media persons on Saturday, November 25, she said, "Most of the workers and volunteers who are involved in Dharma Sansad belong to the Hindu Parivar. The youth are rendering social service without any selfish motive. Naturally it would be a plus point for the BJP," she said.
"Islamic fundamentalist organisations like Karnataka Forum for Dignity (KFD) and Popular Front of India (PFI) activists will naturally lean towards ISIS organisations. People feel they live in an environment of threat. Hence, the Hindu society should explore its strength to defeat them. The Dharma Sansad emphasizes such unity," she said.

She lashed out at the Kannada Sahitya Sammelan and said it was a 'Congress-endorsed' programme. "Kannada Sahitya Sammelan president Chandrashekar Patil and writer Baraguru Ramachandrappa M P discussed more about Prime Minister Narendra Modi than conservation and preservation of Kannada language and culture," she said.
"At the Sammelan, the main topic of discussion should have been about Kannada language getting the classical status. However, the focus was diverted and the platform was used to discuss political issues, which is a tragedy," she said.
"The so-called intellectuals are criticising the central government. Chief minister Siddaramaiah himself does not have any interest in Kannada Sammelan. Moreover, education minister Tanveer Sait was also absent for the programme. This shows their true 'concern' over enhancing Kannada language and literature," she ridiculed.
