Mangaluru, Nov 25: A court here held that a murder which happened in Beltangady taluk three years back was culpable homicide not amounting murder. The third additional district and sessions court here which reached to this conclusion, awarded three years jail term and fine of two lac rupees to the guilty.
The person who has been given this sentence is Ramesh (35) from Kakkinje Chibidre in Beltangady taluk. Balakrishna (25) who was the younger brother of Ramesh's wife, was the man who lost life in this incident. Judge of the court, Muralidhar Pai B,ordered that the amount of fine should be disbursed to the mother of the victim in the form of compensation.
Ramesh from Kakkinje Chibidre had married Sunanda, daughter of Kalyani from Kalanja village in Beltangady taluk. Kalyani used to live with her only son, Balakrishna, after her daughter's marriage.
Kalyani had shared her property with her son and son-in-law but there was grouse about the share they got, in the minds of Ramesh and Balakrishna, it is said. Girija, a neighbour, had complained that Ramesh attacked Balakrishna because of this enmity. Uppinangady police had registered the case on the basis of this complaint. The then police circle inspector, Anil S Kulkarni, had investigated the case and filed a charge sheet in the court.
Sunanda owns a rubber plantation and Ramesh had visited his in-laws to help in rubber tapping work. As Balakrishna did not put in enough work at home, his mother used to advise him repeatedly to do some work. On this issue, a quarrel broke out between Ramesh and Balakrishna on November 24, 2014 in the courtyard of the house. At about 2.30 pm that day, Ramesh hit his bother-in-law with his hands, pushed Balakrishna to the ground and hit his face with a stone. Kalyani then rushed out, took Balakrishna inside the house with the help of Ramesh. Whilst she put water into Balakrishna's mouth, he breathed his last.
Public prosecutor, Narayana Sherigar, had presented the case on behalf of the prosecution.
