Bengaluru, Nov 23: Angry that his daughter was in love with a youth from another caste, a man had repeatedly hit the teenager with a wooden stick till she breathed her last. This incident had happened at Lakkappanahalli village in Thyamagondlu revenue division in the district but came to be known with inordinate delay.
The fact that his daughter, Lakshmi Devi (15), who belongs to Okkaliga category, was in love with Laxminarayan (20) of Bovi community from the same village, was too much to handle for her father, Chikkanarasimhaiah. He bludgeoned Lakshmi Devi and confined her body to flames in his field. The incident which happened a month ago, had remained under wraps till now.
Chikkanarasimhaiah had filed a police complaint about the affair of his minor daughter in August this year. Later, after coming to know that his daughter had started speaking to the same boy again, he had issued warning to her. Frustrated by this, both the lovers had left their homes. The father put some efforts, found out her whereabouts and brought his daughter back home. On October 22, he hit her repeatedly with wooden stick and murdered her. To make sure that villagers do not come to know of this killing, he had burnt down the body in his field located behind his home.
Although Chikkanarasimhaiah made every effort to conceal his misdeed, the matter somehow reached intelligence officials. They sounded Thyamagondlu police station, and the police who went to verify, found that the information was true.
The culprit has been arrested. Inspector general of police, Amrit Paul, city rural superintendent of police, Amit Singh, and other officers visited the spot and guided investigation. Amrit Paul stated that the man has confessed to his crime.
