Udupi: Suzlon to talk to workers - people seek their land back

Udupi, Nov 22: Deputy commissioner of the district, Priyanka Mary Francis, said that corporate head of Suzlon Energy, Vijay Asnani, has sent an e-mail to the district administration, informing that the company will hold talks with the company's workers on November 30 in an effort to apprise and convince them of the current situation. She said that Asnani has promised to take further steps as may be necessary depending on the outcome of these talks.

In the meanwhile, people who lost their land to Suzlon project and members of Suzlon R & R Colony Development Committee, in a written petition handed over to the deputy commissioner of the district, wanted the land to be handed back to original owners if Suzlon is not interested in using this land. The committee said that there was positive response from deputy commissioner to this petition.

The committee has also urged the government to take back land that was illegally distributed among members of Koraga community, although they did not lose any land in this process. They have asked the government to settle the Koragas somewhere else. "A number of people affected by this project will become unemployed if Suzlon closes down its facility here. The company should disburse compensation of Rs 25 lac to each of them," the petitioners have said.

Working president of the committee, Loalksha, honorary president, Mohiuddin, president, Umanath K R, and treasurer, Santosh, were the members of this delegation.
