Mysuru, Nov 21: In a daring act of defiance for a right cause, a 16-year-old girl, whose marriage was fixed with her maternal uncle, escaped from the house at night and had taken shelter at the girl children's center here.

This courageous girl is the daughter of couple Mahadevasetty and Mangalamma, residents of Koodlapura village in Nanjangud taluk.

The girl said, "My parents decided to marry me off to my maternal uncle even though I was against the same. They threatened me with dire consequences. So I left my home on the night of Monday November 20 and took shelter in the verandah of Srikanteshwara temple of Nanjangud. I conveyed my story to the locals who saw me sitting alone in the temple vicinity on Tuesday November 21 and they brought me to this girls' center."

Savithri, chief of the center, has given a statement saying that inquiry regarding this incident will be made on Wednesday November 22 in the presence of the parents and suitable action will be taken.
