Moodbidri, Nov 20: A thief, who allegedly used to break the locks of houses and rob gold ornaments in broad daylight, under Moodbidri police station limits, has been arrested by police inspector and staff of Moodbidri police station.
The arrested person is Lokesh Shettigar (19), son of Jayakumar, a resident of Urki, Badayedapadavu village. He had allegedly broken into and stolen gold ornaments from the houses of Suresh Bhandary, a resident of Maroor village on August 28, 2017, Vijay Kumar, a resident of Pranthya village on September 25, 2017, Sadashiva Acharya, a resident of Karinje village on September 25, 2017, Dinesh Naik, a resident of Belvai village on October 11, 2017 and from the house of Kishore, a resident of Puttige.
He was arrested from Mariyadi, Moodbidri, on November 18, in an operation that was conducted on definite information received by police from reliable sources. Police have recovered a total of 221 grams of gold, one motor bike and 10 mobile phones. The total value of the goods recovered is around Rs 7 lac.
This operation was carried out by Ramachandra Nayak, police inspector and staff of Moodbidri police station under the direction of T R Suresh, police commissioner, Hanumantharaya, deputy police commissioner (law and order), Uma Prashanth, deputy police commissioner (crime and traffic) and Rajendra D S, assistant police commissioner, Mangaluru north sub division.
