Mangaluru: Academy president calls for involvement of youngsters for Konkani to prosper

Mangaluru, Nov 17: "By dedicatedly getting involved in the service of Konkani language, culture and art, young people and students can make valuable contributions to the field of Konkani literature," felt R P Naik Dandeli, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.

He was speaking after presiding over a programme organized to celebrate silver jubilee pertaining to Konkani language winning recognition by being included in the eighth schedule of the constitution.

Chairman of Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation, B H Khader, who spoke after inaugurating the event, promised to make efforts to see that Academy gets an independent office of its own. He said he will join hands with the district in-charge minister to make this happen early.

President of the taluk panchayat here, Muhammed Monu, hailed the Academy for contributing to the growth of Konkani language by creating a forum for introducing Konkani culture to children.

In the talent reward programme organized for Konkani-speaking children, St Aloysius College bagged the first prize while Capitanio College was placed second.

Former president of Konkani Academy, Basti Vaman Shenoy, Eric Ozario, Roy Castelino and several others were present. Registrar of the academy, Dr Devadas Pai, proposed vote of thanks. Victor Mathias presented the programme.
