Puttur: Fancy shop at Hosmath catches fire, loss put at Rs 11 lac

Puttur, Nov 15: A fancy shop functioning in Kutruppady gram panchayat building at Hosmath located on Kadaba - Subramanya state highway suddenly caught fire. The entire stock inside the shop was gutted in fire.

The fancy shop run by Suguna Devaiah had stock of a variety of items namely footwear, bags, purses, ornaments for renting out for functions. In addition to items belonging to the shop, computer and documents belonging to Syndicate Bank located in the same building were consumed by the fire. In addition, tailoring machine, clothes etc belonging to Jayashree who operated her tailoring shop in a portion of the fancy store and books pertaining to the library of Kutruppady gram panchayat turned to ashes in the incident.

The exact reason for the cause of the fire could not be ascertained. An estimate has put the figure of loss at eleven lac rupees.

Kadaba tahsildar, John Prakash Rodrigues, revenue inspector, Koragappa Hegde, zilla panchayat member, P P Varghese, taluk panchayat members, Ganesh Kaikure and K T Valsamma, gram panchayat president, Janaki and others visited the spot. They assured they will take up the issue of obtaining compensation from the government.
