Puttur, Nov 15: The additional civil court (senior division) here granted bail to a person who has been accused of insulting the statue of Deyi Baidethi, a celebrated practitioner of native medicines and revered mother of legendary heroes of Tulunadu, Koti and Chennaya, sometime back. The statue in question is located in the herbal garden of Mudipinadka in Badagannur village in the taluk.

The fact that the accused, Haneef, had clicked the picture of him posing in an obscene posture with the statue, and had posted the same in a social website, had become public on September 9. He was arrested the very next day. After he was arrested, Haneef had approached transactional (senior division) court for bail but the court had turned down his plea. He then had pleaded with fifth additional district and sessions court here for bail, where too he had disappointment in store. Another bail application was moved in the additional civil court (senior division) here, on the basis that the police had failed to file final report even after 60 days of filing the case. The court upheld this application and passed an order, granting bail to Haneef.

Advocates, Ashraf Agnadi and Majeed Khan had represented the accused in the court.
