Udupi, Nov 15: Kondadi Girijana Colony Applicants Association for the members of Girija colony in Bommarbettu village of Udupi taluk was inaugurated Tuesday, November 14.
Renowned psychiatrist Dr P V Bhandary inaugurated the association. He said, “The people from Harijana Girijana communities must make proper use of the facilities provided by the government and attempt to come to the mainstream. When the citizens of backward communities are aware of their rights and responsibilities the country will develop.”
Addressing the volunteers of the foundation and members of the Koraga community, Shashidhar Shetty, the president of National Environmental Care Federation said, “The facilities provided to Harijana Girijana communities by the elected representatives are not charity but their constitutional right. Only when the people of the backward community are educated and when they take up high government positions there can be progress. Also there is a need to conserve the inherent skills and craftsmanship of the community.”
The president of Human rights Protection Foundation, Udupi, Dr Ravindranath Shanbhag said, “Protest against any injustice should be a no-violent one. It is not important as to who is responsible for the non-implementation of the housing scheme. It is important to bring about the implementation of the scheme through peaceful means. The Human Rights Protection Foundation, Udupi is ready to provide all kinds of support for such fights for justice. The objective of the foundation is to empower the backward and provide justice to the aggrieved.”
Subeda, the convener of Kondadi Girijana Colony Applicants Association, narrated the pains suffered by the applicants during the past six years for obtaining the record of rights for their sites. She assured her complete cooperation and support for the speedy implementation of the scheme and thanked everyone who had helped the cause.
The members of the community had received RTC six years ago but have not been allotted sites yet. From the past four days, Human Rights Protection Foundation, Udupi along with several student volunteers of Manipal University cleaned and leveled the land. Thereafter, Kondadi Girijana Colony Applicants Association was established.
