Mangaluru, Nov 13: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy is set to celebrate 25 years of recognition to Konkani with 25 different programmes.
The academy has already held seven programmes as part of the celebrations like 'Konkani Manyata Divas' (Konkani Recognition Day) celebrations held under the aegis of Konkani Parishad on August 20, 2017 at Kumta, Konkani language programme held at Mundagoda on September 22, 2017 with the cooperation of Sinchana Association, Konkani Janapada Arts Literary Festival at Yellapur on September 23, 2017 in association with Yellapur Maithri Balaga, Konkani language workshop at Gerusoppa on September 24, 2017 with the help of Konkani Sanghatane organization, Konkani Bhasha Literature and Cultural Fusion at Dharwad on October 15, 2017 at Dharwad Samuchaya Bhavan, Konkan People World of Veda on October 27, 2017 at Kunabi Bhavan, Joida, Uttar Kannada district, Konkani Sambhram on October 29, 2017 at Bhuvanendra Kalabhavan, Puttur.
The academy will organise their eighth programme as Konkani Children’s Day on November 16, 2017 at Mangaluru. Several programmes involving primary school, high school and college students will be held the whole day till 8 pm at the Town Hall.
Mangaluru mayor Kavitha Sanil will inaugurate the programme at 9 am. Academy president R P Naik will chair the programme. Mangaluru police commissioner T R Suresh will be the chief guest. Art teams from selected schools and colleges will display their talents. School students and college students are allowed in two groups to perform dramas, feature, group songs, Janapada dance, give speech and mono act.
A formal stage function on Konkani Recognition Day silver jubilee will be held for college students at 5 pm. Minister of forests, ecology and environment Ramanath Rai will inaugurate the programme. Academy president R P Naik will chair the programme. Minister of food and civil supplies U T Khader, Mangaluru south MLA J R Lobo, Moodbidri MLA Abhayachandra Jain, Vidhana Parishat chief whip Ivan D'Souza, D K panchayat president Meenakshi Shantigodu, Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mangaluru north MLA B A Mohiuddin Bava, Karnataka cashew development board president B H Khader, Mangaluru taluk panchayat president Mohammed Monu and Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy president A C Bhandary will be the guests of honour.
Former presidents of the academy, Basti Vaman Shenoy, Eric Ozario, Kundapur Narayan Kharvi, Kasargod Chinna and Roy Castelino will be present as special guests.
Pre-university college and degree college teams will present cultural programme. Academy member Joachim Stany Alvares will be the member convener of the programme. Konkani Prachar Sanchalan will co-ordinate the programme. Dr B Devadas Pai, Stany Alvares and R P Naik, registrar, member convener and president of the academy have requested people to attend in large numbers and congratulate the academy for obtaining recognition.
