Udupi, Nov 9: District in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj performed ‘guddali puja’ on Thursday, November 9 for the 3-km long road widening project from Beedinagudde junction to Alevoor. The project comes under city municipality council and will cost Rs 2.50 crores.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Pramod Madhwaraj said, “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has released the funds for the overall developments of 224 constituencies simultaneously. The government has released Rs 1873 crores for Udupi consistency for 34 various development works including scholarship for students in last four years. Rs 711 crores have been released for construction of roads, buildings, bridges in 5600 difference places in Udupi.”
“Further, the state government has sanctioned Rs 500 crores of grants specifically for CMC. The total width of the road will be increased from 5.5 metres to 7 metres. Villagers in some places are not willing to give their land for road widening,” he said.
“Our ancestors gave up their lands for free in view of development. But now-a-days people are reluctant to give their lands to government for road construction work. Due to this we have shortage of land for the road,” he added.
Ramesh Kanchan, member, Bailoor ward, CMC president Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, vice president Sandhya Thilakraj, Vijay Kumar, Geeta Ravi Shet, member, Olakadu ward, Shantaram Sallnvankar, Kasturbanagar ward and others were present.
