Sullia, Nov 5: "Common people and farmers living in and around western ghats are living in an environment of apprehension over the possible implementation of Kasturirangan report relating to environment and ecology of the ghats. I will put in my honest and best efforts to ward off their fears. Although the notification was forwarded to Karnataka government thrice, it appears to be in deep slumber. The government still has time to save the situation. Already I have put together MPs representing the western ghat regions and appealed to the union environment minster not to issue the final notification," said central minister and former Karnataka chief minister, D V Sadananda Gowda.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday November 4, Gowda said that the farmers would be consulted on the issue and their stand over the final notification will be clearly conveyed to the central government. He said that 'Parivartana Yatra' aims at achieving total transformation of India into 'Nava Bharat (resurgent India)' by the year 2020.
MLA, S Angara, taluk panchayat president, Chenia Kalladka, BJP block president, Venkat Volalambe, leaders like S N Manmatha, A V Teertharama, N A Ramachandra and others were present.
