Udupi, Nov 2: District in-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj laid foundation stone for sea walkway point at Malpe beach here on Wednesday, November 1.
The sea walkway point will be constructed at cost of Rs 53.5 lac. This will be first such sea walkway in the state. The point will be located near the tourist jetty, which transports tourists on boats from Malpe to the St Mary’s Island.
Addressing the gathering minister Pramod said, “The walkway will give an amazing feeling to the tourists. It will also make people relieve from the stress. All construction work will be completed before the end of December. A fund of Rs 1.12 crore has been released by Malpe Development Committee for various development works to Nirmiti Kendra to construct the sea walkway. Various development works have been taken up at Padukere bridge, and Shanthinagar beach for roads, bridges, and toilet construction. Rs 75 lac has been released for the construction work. Two acre of land has been reserved for developing adventurous activities.”
The length of the sea walkway will be 500 mtrs from the jetty and its width will be 8.5 ft. As many as 15 benches will be installed on the walkway for the people to sit and enjoy the sea’s breeze.
It will have to do some stone cutting to level the land and then put the soil to create the sea walkway. Then sand and after that inter-lock tiles and ornamental lamps will installed in the two sides.
There are such sea walkways in other states including one at Beypore beach at Kozhikode in Kerala.
Anitha, assistant director of tourism department, CMC member Ganesh Nergi, Narayan Nergi, Narayan Kundar, Vijay Kundar, project director Arun Kumar, Satish Amin Padukere, and CMC commissioner Manjunathayya were present.
