Mysuru, Nov 1: Janapada scholar from here, Dr P K Rajashekhar, was chosen for this year's Rajyotsava award. The government, which realized its mistake later that Rajashekhar had been given this award once earlier, and there is no provision to give the same award a second time, withdrew it later.
Rajashekhar said that he had received the award in 2005 and that he had not applied for the award this time.
Writer and social thinker, D S Nagabhushan from Shivamogga, who was chosen for Rajyotsava award, has declined to receive the award, accusing the government of dithering on the issue of making Kannada medium mandatory in primary education. While thanking the government for identifying his services, he said he is not in a position to accept the award as the government had failed in its duty to give encouragement to Kannada. He said that it is the duty of the state to bring pressure on central government to make ammendments to the constitution to provide for giving right to the states to decide medium of instruction in schools.
