Udupi, Nov 1: Adani owned UPCL, which is operating power plant in Yellur village; handed over the confirmatory letter of CSR grant of Rs 85.33 lac to Tenka gram panchayat for undertaking the village developments works under CSR programme in the villages of Tenka panchayat for the financial year 2017-18.
The list containing the village development works for execution and the confirmation letter were mutually exchanged by Aruna Kumar, president of Tenka grama panchayat and Kishore Alva, joint president of Adani UPCL.
Handing over the ‘Kriya Yojane’, the action plan containing the list of works for execution, Aruna Kumari welcomed the initiation of Adani UPCL for undertaking CSR activities in the nearby villages.
Speaking on the occasion, Kishore Alva informed that Adani UPCL has totally declared a CSR grant of Rs 22.73 crore to surrounding 7 gram panchayats for a period of three years, wherein Tenka gram panchayat has got the grant of Rs 2.56 crore. Every year UPCL is committed to execute development works worth Rs 85.33 lac in Tenka grama panchayat for three years and during the year 2016-17, UPCL has already executed works worth Rs 36.25 lacs involving concreting of roads, construction of foot-over bridge, electrification of roads and installation of dustbins. In addition, the contracts for development works worth Rs 57.27 lacs have been already awarded and it would be completed before end of December, Alva told. He further told that the development works worth Rs 85.33 lacs indicated by panchayat for the current
financial year 2017-18 will soon be taken-up for execution and will be commissioned before March 2018.
Alva further informed that the power purchase agreement with government of Karnataka for UPCL’s expansion of 1,200 MW is in process of completion and the expansion plant will be commissioned within 40 months. Presently the UPCL is meeting 12% of the total demand of electricity of the Karnataka state and with the expansion it will be adding another 1,200 MW to the grid, making state self-sufficient to meet the electricity demand, he added.
Alva also informedthat the Adani cement grinding unit would be set-up in the premises of UPCL plant for the utilization of fly ash and the cement unit provides employment opportunities to the locals. Setting-up of water desal plant by Adani Group is also in the project pipeline to cater to the water requirements by industries in Mangaluru and also provide free water supply to nearby villagers in and around UPCL plant, he added.
Adani Mobile Health Service extended to Tenka villagers
During the occasion, Alva also informed that considering the demand by villagers, UPCL, in association with Adani Foundation, will extend its Mobile Health Service to the Tenka Panchayat. He told that Mobile Health Service will facilitate needy villagers to avail cashless medical treatment and medicines at their door steps. He addressed that the Tenka villagers can avail the services of mobile health services every Saturday.
Kishore, vice-president of Tenka gram panchayat, Sayeera Banu, panchayat member, Ashalatha, panchayat development officer, Girish Navada, AGM of UPCL, Ravi Jere, senior manager of UPCL, Vineet Anchan, Anudeep Poojary, Sukesh Suvarna from Adani Foundation were present on the occasion.
