Beltangady, Jun 21: When a water tank at the Hallingeri Cow Breeding Centre of Kokkada village collapsed on Friday June 20, a labourer named Nagendra Shetty (22) from Bavalikadu of Nidle village in Beltangady taluk, lost his life after sustaining severe head injuries. He was washing utensils near the tank when it suddenly came down crashing.
This research centre has been set up by Sri Kshetra Dharmastala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) in association with the state animal husbandry department. The centre is yet to be officially inaugurated.
Nagendra, who was trained in making bricks under the Siri scheme of SKDRDP was engaged in making bricks. He had come here for planting coconut saplings. He is the youngest of the nine children of his parents. The tank that crashed was built last year out of laterite stones, with a height of only six feet and 2,500 litres capacity. As others in the vicinity ran away sensing the crash, they were saved.
Officials of SKDRDP visited the family of the deceased and pacified the grief-stricken family members.
