Udupi, Oct 30: The district's 22nd taluk sammelana of the Communist Party of India, was held at Narayana Guru Sabha Bhavan, Bannanje, here on Sunday October 29.
State secretary of CITU and district secretary of the sammelana after inaugurating the sammelana said, "The October revolution is celebrating a century this year. It has brought a lot of changes. Women have got voting rights for the first time.
"The present situation in India brings to mind the ‘Emergency period 1975’, but now it is undeclared. Everyone has the right to express their opinion in a democratic country, but there is no freedom of opinion in India. A lot effort has been made by the Modi government to suppress protesters like Kanhaiya, film actors or common people, who went against the BJP government. In Kerala, the CPI(M) activists were killed. What is the meaning of democracy in its true sense then?"
"The union government implemented demonetization policy to curb black money. CPIM always opposes the current economic policy. Nearly 11 like-minded unions and 58 other organizations, more than 5 lac members are getting ready to stand against the central government's economic policy.
"Modi has promised GST which stands for Good and Simple Tax, but after three months, small scale industrialists are suffering due to online tax payment system.
"The government has imposed tax of 5% on fish, 12% on fishing nets, 18% on rope and more than 50% on petrol and diesel. Are they human? This is fully controlling the state government and administering a dictatorship in the nation.
"India ranked 100th position among 119 countries on Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2017 report released by Washington-based International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). There is a 20 crore population suffering from malnutrition, while earlier it was 19.7 crore. Nearly 9.7 crore of children were found malnourished.
"‘Chay pe charcha' has been done, but nothing has changed. 58% of boys and 50% of girls are suffering from anaemia and nutritious food.
Balakrishna Shetty said, "Modi has promised he will generate more than 2 lakh of employment every year, but reached only 1 lakh to 2 lakh points."
"Modi always has a soft corner for multi-national companies while implementing economic policies and he has waived Rs 86 crore debts of 500 companies in 15 corporate companies.
"Modi has created an opportunity of exchanging black money to white, through implementing demonetization.
"Communalism is glorified in Yogi led Uttar Pradesh, the same communalism is being spread in Udupi also.
"Common people need a land to take shelter and education as it is basic infrastructure for them.
"A district level CPI (M) sammelana will be held at Byndoor on December 26 and state level sammelana will be held from January 2 to 5 at Moodbidri."
