Udupi, Oct 27: “Officers investigating the power purchase agreement entered into by Shobha Karandlaje, influential leader of BJP and current Chikkamagaluru MP, when she was Karnataka energy minister during Yeddyurappa's term as chief minister, have reported to the house committee that there was large scale corruption in the power purchase agreement amounting to Rs 28,000 crore. The government should immediately make the report public and the MP should resign and cooperate in the investigations if she has self respect,” urged Udupi district youth Congress president Vishwas V Amin.

“The MP who is receiving publicity making unfounded allegations daily in front of the media is hiding from the people of her constituency. It is shameful that a woman representative in Karnataka is involved in a multi-crore scam.”

Increased electricity rate

“She has helped industrialists by converting the existing power purchase agreement as annual tender process. The government was purchasing electricity at the rate of Rs 3.24 per unit prior to it. The MP increased it to Rs 6.28 per unit. She has increased the economic burden on common man. It is a scam of Rs 28,000 crore. There should be detailed investigations on allegations of kickbacks and her true colours should be revealed,” the youth congress urged the state chief minister.

Have a 'comfortable stay in prison'

"There are discussions that her mentor, former chief minister Yeddyurappa was in prison after getting stuck in corruption. What will be the fate of our MP who has followed his path. Youth congress wishes her comfortable stay in prison.

"Those are the examples of Ache Din and corruption free administration of the Prime Minister. Let them hold a campaign for jail-free administration instead of congress-free India. Youth Congress will hold youth Congress card campaign in all Vidhan Sabha constituencies in the district and a Twitter campaign, besides protests, urging for the resignation of the MP,” said Vishwas V Amin.
