Moodbidri, Oct 26: Well-known litterateur, screenplay writer, actor and cine director, Dr Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar, has been chosen to preside over the annual 'Alvas Nudisiri', a programme being held to celebrate Kannada land and language. This time, Nudisiri will be held under the aegis of Alva's Education Foundation from December 1 to 3.
Renowned critic, Dr C N Ramachandran, will inaugurate the Sammelan, said chairman of Alvas Education Foundation, Dr M Mohan Alva, addressing a press conference held here on Tuesday October 24. He said that the Nudisiri this time will unveil multi-faceted identity of Kannada land,language and culture. The main theme of the Sammelan will be plurality of Karnataka heritage and culture. Preparations for the same are going on in full swing, he explained.
Alva noted that Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar, who has been chosen to chair the Sammelan, is a popular figure as a story teller and director of movies. He mentioned that Nagathihalli has contributed 21 works to Kannada divided over stories, novels, and travelogues. "After entering the realm of movies by writing dialogues for 'Kadina Benki' movie, Natathihalli provided cinematography, dialogues, lyrics etc for several films. After directing his first film,'Undu Hoda, Kondu Hoda', Natathihalli directed over 15 films and bagged a number of state and national level awards. Several of the tele serials he directed have become immensely popular," he explained.
Dr Ramachandran, who will inaugurate the programme, is well known as a teacher of English language and literature in India, Somalia, Saudi Arabia and United States of America. "He worked 16 years as professor and head of department in Mangalore University before retiring. He wrote ten works in English and 16 in Kannada and translated several Kannada works into English. He has bagged several awards and recognitions," he added.
Public relations officer, Dr Padmanabha Shenoy, and lecturer, Uday Manjunath, were present at the press conference.
