Bengaluru, Oct 25: President Ram Nath Kovind visited the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering, a world class facility, and appreciated the scientific community for creating these facilities to promote research in the emerging area of Nano science and engineering.
Chairing an interactive session on making Bengaluru a hub for science, technology and innovation for New India 2022 on Tuesday evening, he hailed ``Bengaluru is frontiers of science.’’
He appreciated the role of IISc in the emergence of scientific India.
Kovind called for cooperative and collaborative research work between the institutes to make India one of the major countries in scientific achievements and wanted continuous dialogue between the government and related parties to make this happen.
He recalled the contributions made by the great personalities such as Prof C V Raman, Prof Satish Dhawan and Prof C N R Rao, who have made Bengaluru a jewel of science of the country.
The President felt that it was an honour to have visited the Institute which has dedicated itself to the cause of science and the cause of modern India.
IISc director Prof Anurag Kumar made a presentation before the President about the achievements and progress of Indian Institute of Science, in Nano science and engineering, water research, energy research, environment, and ecology.
He has also spoke about new start-ups which has developed devices for diabetic management, water purification and medical training.
Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala, chief secretary Subhash Kuntia, Dr R Chidambaram, scientific advisor to GoI, K K Sharma, secretary, MHRD, Prof Ashutosh Sharma, secretary DST, Prof Vijay Raghavan, secretary DBT, Kiran Kumar, shairman, ISRO, Dr S Christopher, director, DRDO, S S Sandhu, additional secretary, MHRD, Gaurav Gupta, secretary, IT, BT were present along with the directors of ICTS, RRI, IIMB, NCBS and president, JNCASR.
Prof Sandhya Visweswariah, Prof Anjali Karande, Prof Kesava Rao, Prof Biman Bagchi, Prof Jayant Modak, Prof S Ramakrishnan, Prof Gurumoorthy, Prof S K Satheesh, Prof Umesh Wagmare, Prof Rohini Godbole and Prof Apoorva Sarin also participated.
Prof S K Satish, Prof Umesh Wagmare, Prof Apurva Sarin, Prof Rohini Godbole and Prof Rajesh Gopakumar made presentations on environment and climate change, materials of future, nature’s engineering and engineering nature, science from the bench top to mega science, and origin of the universe.
