Mangaluru, Oct 23: Various organizations in coastal Karnataka along with Tulunadu Unification organization have decided to undertake a tweet campaign on October 28 and 29 to reiterate their oft-repeated demad to include Tulu in the eighth schedule of the constitution. The campaign aims to attract the attention of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, who would be visiting the state and Dakshina Kannada district on October 29.
Demand for giving Tulu a place of pride in the eighth schedule of the constitution towards winning recognition for the language, which would entitle it for various facilities, has been placed repeatedly since long. Resolutions had been passed in Tulu conventions in this regard and when similar tweet campaign was undertaken on August 10 this year, 49,900 persons had sent tweets to the Prime Minister placing the said demand.
Modi is expected to visit Dharmasthala on October 29. Tulu supporters and fans expect to send over a lac tweets that day. Ashwath Shaktinagar of Tulunadu Unification organization has sought support from all the people for the task of alerting the officials and people's representatives to the genuine need of giving official recognition to Tulu.
The tweets will read #TuluTo8thSchedule, it has been decided. The tweets will be directed to chief minister, Siddaramaiah, and union home minister, Rajnath Singh too. Tweet tag: @NarendraModi @PMOindia@bsyBJP#tuluto8thschedule #SaveTulunad.
The proposed campaign has got support from Vatal Nagaraj and various people and organizations in the country and abroad.
One of the brains behind the campaign, Ravi, said that demand for precognition to Tulu does not mean that people are against Kannada. "We have love and affection for Kannada. But Tulu, being our mother tongue and a language that is rich and vibrant, is being neglected. We want to draw the attention of the government towards the need to accord recognition it to it by including it in eighth schedule. Towards this, we will also be observing November 1 as black day," he explained.
